Why the strange name?

Yeah I know, the word Grapeshot has very little to do with wine. I needed a name that stands out from the crowd though. I liked the concept that grapeshot is made up of many different little parts, but has a big impact. I also liked my own association with "hot grapes". Anyway. Instead of solid shot, a mass of… Continue

Daily Wine Picks

Tiefenbrunner Chardonnay Vigneti delle Dolomiti Castel Turmhof 2007 (Wine Spectator)

Subtle aromas of apple and cream, with hints of ripe pineapple. Full-bodied, with apple pie and cream flavors, good acidity and a long, flavorful finish. A delicious Chardonnay. Focused and precise. Drink now. 1,700 cases made.

Montevetrano Colli di Salerno 2005 (Wine Spectator)

Very ripe and raisiny, with tar and licorice character that turns to volcanic ash and dried flowers. Full and chewy, yet balanced and polished, with a solid core of fruit and a long, subtle, flavored finish. Best after 2009. 1,500 cases made.

Bodegas y Viñedos del Jalón Grenache Calatayud Viña Alarba Old Vines 2006 (Wine Spectator)

Bright and fruity, this quaffable red offers cherry and vanilla flavors that bounce across the palate, with light tannins and lively acidity. Drink now. 7,000 cases imported.

Farnese Trebbiano d'Abruzzo 2007 (Wine Spectator)

A minerally white, with hints of pear tart that comes through on the medium body. Clean and fruity. Drink now. 83,000 cases made.

Dominio del Plata Cabernet Sauvignon Mendoza Crios de Susana Balbo 2006 (Wine Spectator)

Focused, with good black cherry and currant fruit followed by a layer of shaved vanilla bean on the finish. Drink now. 15,000 cases made.

Pahlmeyer Chardonnay Napa Valley 2006 (Wine Spectator)

Intense, if a bit raw in texture. The core pear, apple, spice and citrus notes are fresh and vibrant, and the finish is long and persistent. Needs bottle time. Best to cellar through 2008. Best from 2008 through 2012. 3,025 cases made.

Vie di Romans Pinot Grigio Isonzo del Friuli Dessimis 2005 (Wine Spectator)

Delicious, almost exotic mix of apple, sultana and Christmas cake spice on the nose and palate. Full-bodied, with intense flavors mirroring the nose and a lingering, almost oily finish. Exquisite. Drink now. 2,500 cases made.

Bodegas y Viñedos O. Fournier Torrontés Cafayate Urban 2007 (Wine Spectator)

Bright, with a floral note leading the way for the elegant citrus peel and persimmon notes. Clean, minerally finish. Well done. Would match with crabmeat. Drink now. 4,000 cases made.

Beringer Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley 2007 (Wine Spectator)

Intense grapefruit, peach, citrus and tangerine flavors, with a zingy mouthwatering acidity and persistence on the finish. Drink now. 14,225 cases made.

Jermann Venezia-Giulia Dreams 2006 (Wine Spectator)

There's apple tart on the nose, with cream and caramel undertones. Full-bodied, with lots of dried tropical fruits, such as mango and pineapple. Long and very flavorful, yet racy and fresh. Gorgeous and generous Chardonnay. Drink now. 3,300 cases made.
